The bank issued an official order in this regard on Monday.
“Monayem has been fired after his involvement with loan scam was proved,” said a senior executive of BASIC Bank.
He added: “The bank is taking preparations to sue Monayem to recover embezzled funds.” Earlier in April 2014, the bank suspended the DMD on charges of involvement with various wrongdoings.
The current management of the scam-hit BASIC Bank has so far taken action against more than 79 employees for similar pecuniary offences, they added.
Earlier, Bangladesh Bank found various irregularities in BASIC Bank in providing loans, which included non-verification of clients’ creditworthiness, absence of “know your customer” procedures and lending to defaulters.
The central bank investigations detected financial irregularities involving around Tk4,500-crore loan from the three branches located at Gulshan, Dilkusha and Shantinagar in Dhaka between 2009 and 2013.
