Clean-up efforts at Sundarbans veer off course

A long-term ecological disaster is in the making in the Sundarbans because the manual clean-up method being employed in the Sela River oil spill is further contaminating the forest floor, experts said. The Forest Department and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) put local people to manually scoop up the spilled furnace oil four days ago.

Bangabandhu’s family to come under presidential retirement scheme 

As members of a former president’s family, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s family members are coming under a government retirement scheme. The government has already drafted a bill on the president’s retirement benefit.
