Islami Oikya Jote cuts ties with BNP-led alliance 

Islami Oikya Jote has announced that they have no relation with the BNP-led alliance. Party Chairman Abdul Latif Nejami made the announcement at the tri-annual meeting of the party at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Thursday.

65 killed in attack on Libya police training centre 

At least 65 people were killed on Thursday when one of Libya's worst truck bombs in years exploded at a police training centre in the town of Zliten, local officials and hospital sources said. No group immediately claimed the attack, but the bombing was one of the deadliest since Islamist militants started expanding their presence in the chaos that followed the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Ijtema devotee killed in Brahmanbaria road accident 

A person has been killed when a bus, carrying Ijtema devotees, plunged into a road side ditch atSarail in Brahmanbaria. The deceased is Nasir Mia, 40, of Inani bazar area of Sylhet. At least 26 others were also injured in the accident that took place on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 5:45pm Thursday.

Iran accuses Saudis of bombing embassy 

Iran on Thursday accused Saudi Arabia warplanes of attacking its embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. "Saudi Arabia is responsible for the damage to the embassy building and the injury to some of its staff," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari was quoted as saying by state television news channel IRIB.

Bhashani University declared closed 

The authorities of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University have declared the institution closed following cracks found at a dormitory for female students after Monday's earthquake. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting presided over by the university vice chancellor on Thursday afternoon.

Three ex-Basic Bank officials held 

The Anti-Corruption Commission has detained three former high ups of Basic bank regarding the bank's Tk2,200 crore loan scam. The officials were detained following the investigation of the 56 cases filed by the commission in September 21, 22, 23 last year where the detainees are named as main accused in the FIR.

36th BCS preliminary test Friday 

The preliminary test of the 36th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) will be held on Friday. The test will be held at 161 centres in the divisional cities including Dhaka, according to Public Service Commission (PSC) seat plan issued by a press release.

Nine charged for Abu Taher murder 

Detective Branch of police has submitted charge sheet against nine persons in the case filed over the murder of former tax commissioner Abu Taher. The accused are: mastermind Nasir, Rasel, Amir, Sohel, Rustom, housemaids Selina and Nur Jahan, Masud and Nur Alam.
