Tenacious Tigers resume hunt

Tribunal seeks Zafrullah Chowdhury's explanation

International Crimes Tribunal 2 has sought an explanation from Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury, also a freedom fighter, on his comments over its judges.

The three-member tribunal, led by its chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan, passed the order on Sunday afternoon, responding to a petition.

Killers publish video of torturing boy to death on Facebook

A gruesome video of torturing Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, the 13-year-old boy who was killed in Kumargaon of Sylhet, has been leaked on the internet.

The 28-minute video that was filmed and uploaded by the criminals themselves showed how Rajon was subjected to barbaric torture before he succumbed to his injuries.

Mosharraf takes office at LGRD ministry

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has formally joined the office at LGRD Ministry.

The minister came to the ministry around 11:30am on Sunday. Acting Secretary Abdul Malek received him at the office.

Freedom fighter, wife killed in Natore

A freedom fighter and his wife have been killed by unidentified assailants at Parshaingol village under Singra upazila in Natore.

The deceased are Noni Gopal Kundu, 75 and his wife Chitra Rani Kundu, 65. Noni was the son of Baku Kundu of the village.

Typhoon pounds China with heavy rain

A typhoon pounded the Chinese coast south of Shanghai on Saturday with strong winds and heavy rainfall, submerging roads, felling trees and forcing the evacuation of 1.1 million people.

Typhoon Chan-hom slammed ashore with winds of up to 160 kilometers (100 miles) per hour near Zhoushan, a city east of the port of Ningbo in Zhejiang province. It has dumped more than 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain since late Friday — about a month's average in less than 24 hours, China Central Television and the Xinhua News Agency reported.

IS claims Italian consulate attack

Islamic State claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack at the Italian consulate in central Cairo on Saturday, in an escalation of violence that suggests militants are opening a new front against foreigners in Egypt.

“Through God’s blessing, Islamic State soldiers were able to detonate a parked car bomb carrying 450 kg of explosive material on the headquarters of the Italian consulate in central Cairo," the group said on a website that carries its statements.

Iran's leader calls for continued anti-US struggle

As negotiators at Iran nuclear talks labored to make headway, the country's supreme leader called Saturday for the struggle against the US to continue, in comments suggesting that Tehran's distrust of Washington will persist no matter what the outcome of the talks.

The negotiations entered their 15th day Saturday with no indications of major progress after three extensions and four target dates for a deal, and diplomats said it remained unclear whether an agreement could be reached by Monday, the latest deadline.

Eurozone to resume Greece talks

Eurozone finance ministers are due to resume crunch talks in Brussels on a bailout deal for Greece.

Nine hours of talks on Saturday ended without agreement and Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem described negotiations as "very difficult".
