SSC success rate drops by 4.3%

With a lower pass rate compared to the previous year, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations of 2015 saw a total of 87.04% of examinees come through successfully.

The success rate has dropped 4.30% from 91.34% of last year.

Rape, rape-murder rising

The incidence of rape and murder after rape is on the rise across the country, a women’s rights group has said.

According to Bangladesh National Woman Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA) statistics, at least 241 rape incidents were reported between January and May 23 this year.


1 Rajuk official suspended, 2 show-caused

Dhaka city development authority Rajuk has suspended one official and show caused two others because of irregularities in giving permission to the construction site that saw several land subsidences since Wednesday.

In a press briefing yesterday, Md Abdur Rahman, acting chairman of Rajuk, said these officials had not informed the higher authority before approving the construction of the NBL twin towers.

Khokon seeks monitoring power alongside Rajuk

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has urged the authorities concerned to give the monitoring power over the under construction buildings to the corporation in line with the Rajuk.

Shamsul Hoque School the best

Shamsul Hoque Khan School and College in the capital city’s Demra succeeded in becoming the best educational institution in the country for the first time in terms of pass rates and GPA 5 scorers in the Secondary School Certificate examinations.

Students, teachers and guardians celebrated the outstanding achievement on the school premises after the results were published.

Sexual assaults: Adivasis demand exemplary punishment 

Several indigenous organisations demonstrated in the capital yesterday demanding quick trial and tougher punishment in the incidents of sexual assaults and rape of women and children.

Bangladesh Adivasi Forum organised a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar demanding exemplary punishment to the culprits who gang raped a Garo woman in the capital on May 21.
