 20-party extends support to Manjur

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has extend its support to outgoing mayor of Chittagong City Corporation M Manjur Alam in the upcoming elections. The decision came from a meeting of the alliance held at the residence of its coordinator, also BNP Chittagong city unit President, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, around 4pm Saturday. The former commerce minister told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have decided to extend our support to M Manjur Alam in the upcoming city corporation polls.”


PM lauds RAB

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has appreciated the role of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in combating militancy and terrorism. She said the elite force has been playing an important role in maintaining law and order situation of the country. The premier was addressing at the 11th founding anniversary of RAB at its headquarters in Uttara on Saturday morning.


20-party's nationwide protest procession Sunday

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has announced to bring out protest processions across the country on Sunday. The alliance made the announcement through a press statement signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu.


4 JMB men placed on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed four members of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a six-day remand each in a case filed under anti-terrorism act. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Saturday afternoon after the IO of the case produced the accused before his court with 10-day remand plea.


Minor girl burnt alive in Satkhira fire

A minor girl has been burnt to death when a fire broke out at her house at Binerpota Basundhara village under Satkhira sadar upazila. The deceased is Sumaiya, 2, daughter of Babar Ali Morol of the village. Babar said: “The fire originated from the cow shed and soon it engulfed the house early Saturday.”
