Khaleda: Blockade to continue
Confined BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called party men to continue countrywide blockade programme until the government permits BNP to hold rally. She made the announcement while briefing reporters at her Gulshan office on Monday afternoon. The BNP leader came up with the briefing after almost an hour of her effort to leave the office. Police used pepper spray to disperse BNP men who were hitting the gate to come out from the party office. Khaleda Zia was then staying inside her car.
Shun path of destruction, Hasina to Khaleda
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to leave her destructive path of politics and take the path of peace instead. The premier made the call on the day of Khaleda’s blockade announcement. She started her speech at 7:15pm on Monday. BTV World aired the address live.
Wife kills man over watching Star Jalsha
A woman has killed her husband, following a family feud over watching a Soap Opera at Indina private television channel Star Jalsha in the city on Sunday night. The deceased is Sohrab Hossain alias Amir Hossain, 28, son of Shahjahan Miah of Barkat Kanda village under Kapasia upazlia in the district. Police arrested his wife Shahida Akter Ripa from the spot.
'Khaleda to be kept under security as long as it needs'
Denying Khaleda Zia’s claim of confinement, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the government had increased the security of the BNP chief. The junior home boss made the statement at a press briefing in the capital on Monday. “The government will keep BNP Chairperson under security belt as long as it necessary,” said Kamal.
Two BNP men shot dead in Natore
Two people have been shot dead in a clash between ruling Awami League and BNP at Tebbaria area under sadar upazila in Natore. Aminul Haq, district BNP general secretary, claimed the deceased to be their activists. The deceased are Rayhan Hossain Rana, 25, son of Mithun of Naogoan and Rakib, 26, son of Chand Munshi of Tebaria uttarpara village in Natore.
Dhaka streets under AL control
The ruling Awami League and its affiliated bodies have gathered at 15 points of the capital to observe the “Victory Day of Democracy” and resist the BNP’s counter programmes. Several leaders and activists of Awami League were also seen on the sides of some important roads with banners and festoons on Monday morning. However, the party members did not chant slogans or brought out any procession in the capital as Dhaka Metropolitan Police imposed section 144 in the capital to avert any untoward incident.
