17 JMB men jailed for 10 years
Seventeen militants of banned Islamic organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) have been jailed for 10 years in 2005 series bomb attack in Gazipur. Dhaka-4 Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar passed the order on Monday.
159 trafficking victims return from Myanmar
The Border Guard Bangladesh has brought back 159 Bangladeshis who were found adrift near the Myanmar coast. The trafficking victims were brought back home around 1pm Monday.
Order on Zafrullah’s contempt of court Aug 30
The international crimes tribunal has fixed August 30 to give an order in a contempt of court against freedom fighter and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury for his contemptuous remarks on its judges. The three-member International Crimes Tribunal 2 led by Justice Obaidul Hassan set the date after hearing the arguments from both the petitioner and defence counsels.
Niloy murder case handed over to DB
Khilgaon police have handed over blogger Niloy murder case to the Detective Branch (DB) of police. Khilgaon Inspector and also the Investigation Officer of the case Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. He said Khilgaon police handed over the case to DB on late Sunday night.
Rajon’s father urges PM to bring back Kamrul
Rajon’s father has urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fulfill four-point demands. Azizur Rahman, father of the ill-fated 13-year old boy Rajon who was beaten to death, made the call in a memorandum which was submitted to the premier through the deputy commissioner of Sylhet on Monday.
Complaint filed to bar Khaleda from celebrating birthday on Aug 15
A complaint has been filed with a Barisal court seeking its order to prevent BNP chief Khaleda Zia from celebrating birthday on August 15, the National Mourning Day. Moin Tushar, former joint secretary of Government BM Collage unit of Chhatra League, filed the complaint in Barisal Senior Assistant Judge Court on Monday.
20 students injured as classroom floor subsides
At least 20 students have been injured after a portion of the floor of a primary school's classroom subsided at Laksham in Comilla. The injured students of Aswatola Government Primary School were admitted to Laksham upazila health complex.
German embassy condemns Niloy murder
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bangladesh has strongly condemned the murder of blogger Niladri Chaterjee. The condemnation was made by the Deputy Head of Mission Dr Ferdinand von Weyhe on Monday, four days after the killing incident of blogger Nioy that took place on Friday.
