Foodpanda’s best of 2017
As Foodpanda says goodbye to its busiest year yet and welcomes 2018, it’s safe to say that the food delivery company experienced some pretty out-of-the-ordinary orders over the past year. Here’s an account of some of the interesting orders received last year.   Top customers Their two highest orderers of the year came from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Kuala Lumpur, who ordered 511 times and 608 times respectively, during 2017. Meanwhile, in Europe, someone ordered more than 300 times in Bucharest, Romania.   Most popular items Everyone loves fries. But there are clear differences in taste: Pakistan orders 36 times more fries than Bulgaria per capita. Additionally, Singapore eats almost three times as much rice as Taiwan, who already eats four times more than Hong Kong! You do the math.   Most expensive items Foodpanda and its partner restaurants offer a great variety of food, all around the world. But some of the menu items aren’t quite so affordable as others. A restaurant in Bangkok, for example, sells a Wagyu rib eye steak for a pretty pricey 288 euros.   Rider stories The Foodpanda riders are at the heart of the deliveries—the fastest of which in 2017 took just 10 minutes. Foodpanda riders based in Australia offered an eye-opening insight to the job, stating they have delivered to strip clubs and celebrities! It’s also notable how regularly Foodpanda riders receive requests for birthday surprises and sing-alongs!   The Samaritans delivery In July, five Foodpanda riders delivered 150 meals to Rumah Titian Kasih, a home for orphans, single mothers, the disabled and senior citizens. The driver of the Grab car used to deliver the food responded by refusing to accept the travel payment. The good-spirited delivery was made in conjunction with Eid.   The secret mansion A rider once delivered to an address that at first glance, looked like nothing but an unkempt garage door. After ringing the bell, the garage door opened and led him into a huge backyard. After passing the backyard, they reached a black sliding gate, which opened into an impressive rock garden, surrounding a noble mansion. Several expensive Mercedes Benz cars were parked in front of the secret mansion. What an adventure.   The prison delivery An unexpected opportunity to take a look inside a prison came in the form of a delivery. Before realizing that the prison was the actual delivery address, the rider passed the gate several times. Once inside, they had to walk several empty corridors, passing magnetic safety doors before meeting the customer.
