‘Team Potter’ from ‘ Institute of Business Administration’ became Champions of Unilever BizMaestros 2016. Beating more than 280 teams from top campuses of the country, the team will now proceed to participate in Unilever Future Leader’s League 2017 which will be held in UK, in Unilever global Head office where they will compete against top 30 teams from all around the world.
In 2016, Bangladesh became the Champion in Unilever Future Leader’s League and now Team Potter will fight to continue the legacy.
Unilever Bangladesh launched BizMaestros in 2010 with the objective to gauge the potential of the graduating talent pool of the country, with winners getting the opportunity to not only make their mark in the FMCG industry but represent Bangladesh in Unilever’s Global Competition- Future Leaders League (FLL). This year teams had an additional special bonus, the winners of BizMaestros 2016 would be getting a leg up in Unilever’s MT program- Unilever Future Leaders Program (UFLP).
Over the years ‘BizMaestros’ had become increasingly competitive with Universities often making it a matter of pride to win the title of champion. The competition is well known for providing students a unique opportunity to work on realistic challenges and this year Bizmaestros was taken to newer heights with over 280 teams applying for a shot at the championship.
The first round took place at Le Méridien Hotel. It tested stress management and on-spot thinking- over 280 teams went in and only 22 made it through to the second round.
The second round had teams experience their first taste of the side of Brand Management no one talks about- data analysis. The teams were briefed during the first half of the day, followed by an inspirational interactive session from the 2015 Winners of BizMaestros and consequent Winners of FLL. The 22 teams then had six hours to reach a pricing decision for LUX; this required them to look at a myriad of data ranging from financial data to consumer panel insights and market dynamics. The teams raced against the clock to crunch the data and reach an optimum solution for the case, the following day they defended and justified their pricing decisions to the panel of expert judges. In the end 10 teams made it through to the Semi- Finals.
The Semi-Final round was where teams had to hit the markets- each team was assigned a cluster of stores and in two days they conducted indepth research in those selected outlets to create retail store and consumer profiles and crafted a growth plan to drive sales for selected brands in those outlets. The teams had their task cut out for them as their judging panel consisted of veterans from Customer Development Leadership Team and Brands. After much deliberation, 4 teams earned their right to the Grand Finale stage, with only one more challenge separating them from winning the championship.
The stage for the Grand Finale was set at Radission, with four teams vying for the chance to represent their country in the global Unilever stage and their shot at the FLL cup. Teams were tasked with coming up with a marketing campaign for “LifeBouy Hand Wash”, a daunting task considering their judging panel consisted Management Committee of Unilever.
After three grueling rounds, it all boiled down to that one night. Teams gave it their all, and judges had a hard time choosing a clear favorite finally after much deliberation BizMaestros 2016 concluded with Team Potter by cinching the championship trophy.
IBA, University of Dhaka, North South University, Jahangir Nagar University, BUET, East West University and Bangladesh University of Professionals were some of the campuses where Unilever conducted its campus engagement sessions. These sessions provided students with the opportunity to meet the leaders of Unilever Bangladesh and connect with them at a more personal level. The students also connected with their alumni at Unilever, understanding the work and environment of Unilever better. Students from other universities participated through Unilever’s facebook page, Unilever Careers.
