New Taka notes coming on Wednesday
New notes worth Tk23,000 crore to be released in the market
New and crisp Taka notes will be available in various bank branches across the country from Wednesday, ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
As the new currency notes always add a new dimension to the festivity, the Bangladesh Bank releases new currency notes on the eve of two major Muslim festivals, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, central bank officials said.
Serajul Islam, executive director and spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, told Dhaka Tribune: “There is a demand for new notes every Eid. Considering the demand, it has been decided to issue new notes. These can be taken from certain branches of different banks from April 20 (Wednesday).”
According to Bangladesh Bank, among these, Tk79.45 crore worth of Tk10 notes, Tk317.90 crore worth of Tk20 notes, Tk144 crore worth of Tk50 notes, Tk1,700 crore worth of Tk100 notes, Tk363 crore worth of Tk200 notes, Tk5,597.53 crore worth of Tk500 notes, and Tk15,000 crore worth of Tk1,000 notes will be released on the day.
This time one can exchange a packet of Tk10, Tk20, Tk50 and Tk100 notes or a total of Tk18,000.
For this, he/she has to deposit the same amount of taka in the bank.
However, Bangladesh Bank did not mention how people in the rural areas would be able to receive new currency notes.
BB officials, however, said that the release of new bank notes would not result in an increased money circulation and would not impact inflation.
Apart from the central bank branches, 32 other branches of different private and public banks in Dhaka would release new currency notes among people ahead of Eid.
