Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat has been appointed chief of air staff for three years, effective June 12
New Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, was given his rank badge at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Dhaka on Thursday.
In the presence of Chief of Army Staff, General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Huq, and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adorned the new air chief with the air marshal rank badge.
The premier’s Security Affairs Adviser, Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Military Secretary Maj Gen Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin, Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, Defence Secretary Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Lt Gen Md Mahfuzur Rahman, and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hasan, were present at the event.
Newly appointed Chief of Air Staff, Masihuzzaman, took charge of the Bangladesh Air Force from outgoing Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, at a ceremony at the Chief of Air Staff's secretariat on Tuesday.
He has been appointed chief of air staff for three years, effective June 12.
New air chief calls on President Hamid
Newly appointed Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat called on President Abdul Hamid at the latter’s official residence Bangabhaban Thursday afternoon.
Md Joynal Abedin, press secretary to the president, said President Hamid greeted the new air chief and expressed his hopes that Bangladesh Air Force would further develop under the leadership of Masihuzzaman.
Hamid suggested the air chief take steps so his force can achieve necessary skills to compete with air forces of other countries.
Bangladesh Air Force has been playing an important role and upholding the country’s positive image through its participation in peace support operations abroad.
Masihuzzaman too sought assistance from the president in performing his duties.
He took over the command of Bangladesh Air Force on Tuesday, succeeding the outgoing Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar.
