Arrestees were trying to enlist themselves in the voters list through bribery

Three Rohingyas have been arrested for trying to enlist themselves in the voter list of Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.

The arrests were made around 5:30am on Thursday.

The arrested are identified as Abdul Hamid, 32; Nur Hossain, 28; and Murshida Begum, 25 from Dail para of Jalipalong union of Cox’s Bazar district.

Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Nikaruzzaman Chowdhury said the arrestees confessed to being Rohingya from Myanmar when they were interrogated. 

“They were trying to enlist themselves in the voters list through bribery,” he added

The UNO also said a letter will be sent to the concerned upazila chairman (UP) to nullify their birth certificate from the registry.
