On August 25, 2017, Rohingya Muslims started to arrivein Cox’s Bazar, the southernmost district of Bangladesh, crossing over from Myanmar’s Rakhine state in thousands to escape a violent military retaliation to a series of insurgent attacks. As of August 15, 2019, more than 740,000 Rohingyas have taken refuge in Cox’s Bazar, according to the UN refugee agency.
