100 out of 3,540 appear for interviews

Out of three thousand five hundred and forty enlisted Rohingyas for repatriation, around hundred appeared for interviews at Shalbagan camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf on Tuesday at about 10 am.

They gave their opinions about the things they want before returning to Myanmar.

Representatives from the offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHRC) and Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC) were seen asking questions to  Rohingyas for interviews.

Shalbagan Rohingya Camp In-Charge (CiC) Mohammad Khaled Hossain confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune.

During the interview, most of the Rohingyas didn’t want to go back to their country, as they wanted security, citizenship and a place where they will not be tortured and oppressed like before.

The Myanmar army launched a crackdown on the Rohingyas in Rakhine state in August of 2017, causing around 700,000 Rohingyas to cross the border into Bangladesh to take shelter.

United Nations said around  1,185,557 Rohingyas,  who are mostly women and children, fled persecution in Myanmar at various periods   and  are living in 30 refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf of Bangladesh.

Due to international pressure, Myanmar signed an agreement with Bangladesh in January of 2018 to take the Rohingyas back.
