11 Rohingyas held over assault on German journos

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, six people including three German journalists came under attack at Ukhiya’s Kutupalong Rohingya Camp

Police on Friday arrested 11 Rohingya suspects in a case filed over the assault on three German journalists at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp.

The arrested were identified as: Ziaibul Haque, Jamal Hossain, Nurul Hakim, Siraj Mia, Khairul Amin, Md Idris, Syed Alam, Rafiq, Shahjahan and Farid Alam.

Shihab Uddin, the Bangladeshi correspondent for the German TV channel also a victim of the assault, had filed a case in this connection accusing at least 400 unknown Rohingya refugees on Thursday night after the incident.

Uikhya police station OC Abul Khayer confirmed the matter on Friday evening.   

The OC also said after receiving treatment at the Malaysian Field Hospital the journalists headed back to Dhaka and the police were investigating the matter thoroughly.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, six people including three German journalists came under attack at Ukhiya’s Kutupalong Rohingya Camp.

Among the injured were, three German journalist— Gunder Stegner, Stefanie Appel, and Ernico Leube, Bangladeshi correspondant Md Shihab, driver Nabiul Alam and police escort Jakir Hossain.

Cox's Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police Md Iqbal Hossain said that the district police are seriously working on the case and are alert in the camp to avoid unpleasant incidents.
