Production at Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory in Fenchuganj is suspended for 40 days due to an acute gas crisis.

The newly-built factory is incurring a loss of Tk50 lakh per day due to the suspension.

Mentioning the production came to a halt on April 23 due to inadequate gas supply, officials concerned said they have no idea when the production will resume.

The factory produces some 1,450 metric tons of fertilizer every day against its daily production capacity of 1,760 metric tons.

The factory’s Executive Engineer Moinul Islam said Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation asked them to stop the production following the nagging gas crisis.

"We are not getting adequate gas supply from Jalalabad Gas. As a result, the production was suspended on April 23. There is a possibility to resume the production after the Eid when the demand of gas may decline," he said.
