The protesting teachers and students of Dhaka University announced to siege the vice-chancellor office on Saturday noon demanding unconditional release of arrested bloggers including a DU student.
"The government is silent even after we have issued ultimatum, staged human chain, protest rally and procession . . .the university administration also didn't take any proper steps, rather it remained silent as before," Dr Rafiqullah Khan, teacher of Bengali department, told a press conference at the DUCSU office.
Khan said : "The youths didn't explode bombs, cut anyone's tendon, chop anybody with machete, kill anyone, destroy people's property, vandalize Shaheed Minars, insult national flag . . . they were arrested only for exercising freedom of thoughts".
"Only for writing few words and sentences, one's arrest and remand cannot be expected . . .writings should be countered by writings, logic's should be countered by logic, everyone expects that," he said.
The protesters also announced to bring out torch procession on Friday from Razu Memorial Sculptor at 7pm and stage protest rally at 10 am Saturday.
They also announced of launching tougher programme if their demands are not met. Their demands included stopping violence on women, trial of war criminals and ban Jamaat-Shibir and all communal politics.
Mass Communctaion and Journalism Department teacher and blogger Fahmidul Haque was present at the press conference.
Law enforcers arrested three bloggers, including a Dhaka University student, from different areas of the capital in the wee hours of April 1 allegedly for making "derogatory comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)" on the internet while blogger Asif Mohiuddin was held a day after their arrest on same charges.
