The Awami League general secretary said they are ready to sternly respond to all terrorist activities

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP has resorted to terrorism by deliberately setting fire on buses in the capital to create chaos in the capital.

He made the remarks during a press conference at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office on Friday.

Quader said: "People have repeatedly rejected them because of such destructive activities in the past. It is their old habit to try to acquire political gain by establishing a reign of terror by depriving innocent people of their lives and property.”

Mentioning the incidents of setting fire to buses at several places in the city on Thursday, The Awami League general secretary said: “Such terrorist activities of the BNP will not be tolerated in any way.”

Quader said Awami League, along with the people, is ready to sternly respond to all terrorist activities.

As many as nine buses, including two vehicles used for carrying government staff, were set on fire at various places in the capital between 12pm and 4:30pm on Thursday, according to the police and fire service.

The incidents took place at a time when the Dhaka 18 constituency went to the by-polls.

No casualties were reported, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The minister extended thanks to all concerned for the peaceful completion of the by-polls to Dhaka 18 and Sirajganj 1 parliamentary seats.

Quader said BNP knew they would not win the polls fairly and so they followed the ill-gotten strategy.

He also mentioned that to make the election controversial, BNP did not retain polling agents.

Quader said after the vote counting when BNP gets defeated in the poll, they blame that the government committed rigging to defeat them but when the party wins they claim they could get more votes.

Pointing to Comilla and Sylhet city corporation elections, Quader said after winning the elections in these two elections, BNP blamed that they could get more votes if the government did not rig.

Quader said BNP would become more irrelevant to people if they continue their sick politics of promoting falsehood and making baseless remarks and continue with evil acts.
