Awami League picks Monu for Dhaka 5, Helal for Naogaon 6 for by-polls

Obaidul Quader said that the party will declare the name of its Dhaka 18 candidate for the by-polls after the Election Commission declares the election schedule

Ruling party Awami League has chosen its candidates for Dhaka 5 and Naogaon 6 constituencies for the upcoming by-elections.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader declared the candidates’ names at a press briefing from his official residence on Monday morning.

He said that the party parliamentary board, led by its president Sheikh Hasina, picked Monirul Islam Monu and Anowar Hossain Helal as the party’s candidates for Dhaka 5 and Naogaon 6 respectively.

Quader also said that the party will declare the name of its Dhaka 18 candidate for the by-polls after the Election Commission (EC) declares the complete election schedule. 

Earlier, on August 23, the Election Commission set October 17 for voting for by-polls to Dhaka and Naogaon.

Monirul Islam Monu is the president of Jatrabari thana Awami League and a senior party leader of that constituency.

Anowar Hossain Helal is the chairman of Raninagar upazila parishad of Naogaon.
