Ishraque suspects that an opportunist group is trying to cause harm to him using the social media

Update : 12 Jun 2020, 07:31 PM

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, who was the BNP mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election, has filed a general diary (GD) with Motijheel police station requesting cybersecurity.

Sujan Mahmud, Ishraque’s media officer, filed the GD on behalf of Ishraque on Friday afternoon. The GD number is 482.

According to the GD, an opportunist group is trying to tarnish Ishraque’s reputation by spreading misleading, offensive, and defamatory information about him on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and WhatsApp.

Ishraque suspects that they are trying to cause harm to him using the social media.

The BNP politician will not be liable for any posts, comments, or shares from accounts except his verified Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, official Facebook page, and YouTube channel, the GD said.

Sujan Mahmud said the GD has been filed so that no one can create confusion through sharing or posting misleading and provocative information by creating fake accounts online.

Ishraque, also an engineer by profession, wants the help of the concerned authorities regarding this matter, he added.

Confirming the matter, Motijheel police station Inspector (operation) Md Rafikul Islam said some people are spreading anti-government propaganda from fake social media accounts using Ishraque’s name.

The Cyber Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police will look into the matter, he added.
