The case is not political and the government has nothing to do with granting bail to her, he says
"BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called over the phone seeking the release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia. But, I have spoken to the home minister and law minister on Thursday and came to know that no formal application has been made on this," he said on Friday.
Rather Khaleda Zia's family members and party leaders spoke about her release in separate incidents, he alleged.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the statement at a press conference held at Awami League president's political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
Quader said: "The BNP secretary general verbally informed me to notify the prime minister about Khaleda's release and I did that."
"But I can say that no other conversation has been made on it yet," he said.
The court is the legal authority
The Awami League general secretary also said that the court is the legal authority to grant bail to the BNP chief.
"The case filed against Begum Zia was not political, so granting bail to her totally depends on the court, not upon the government," he said.
Urging the BNP to make positive politics by avoiding conflict, violence and revenge, Quader said public support for BNP will increase if they shun negative politics.
Replying to a query, he said the graft case against the BNP chief was filed during the caretaker government. So, the case is not a political one and the government has nothing to do in granting bail to her.
He, however, told journalists that the government is providing better treatment to Khaleda Zia as the government is quite sincere on this matter.
Quader criticized the BNP leaders, saying that the statement made by them about Khaleda Zia's physical condition did not match with the report provided by the physicians.
Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries SM Kamal Hossein and Advocate Afzal Hossain, Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, among others, attended the press conference.
