Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has warned a befitting reply will be given if any attempt is made to create anarchy over the verdict on a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia over a corruption case.

Awami League has the capability to handle any situation and law enforcers will give a befitting reply if they (BNP) resort to the path of violence,” he said while speaking at an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka North unit on the national council of the ruling party on Wednesday.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is set to hear on Thursday the BNP chief’s bail petition in Zia Charitable Trust Graft Case, reports UNB.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, alleged that BNP men set fire to vehicles on Wednesday on the eve of the verdict and they are threatening more arson attacks.

“Upcoming days will be very challenging for us. Our rivals will not spare us so easily. They have chosen the path of conspiracy to grab power and they are threatening the apex court over Khaleda’s bail,” he said.

On December 5, the judicial activities of the Appellate Division were disrupted due to chaos created by pro-BNP lawyers seeking hearing on the bail petition of Khaleda on the day.

Quader said the medical board formed for Khaleda’s treatment has BNP’s representative but the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is still doubtful about the report.
