The statement demanded that Nur be investigated for corruption

The Chhatra League panel members of Dhaka University Central Student Union (Ducsu) have demanded the resignation of its Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur over allegations of corruption.

Some 23 Chhatra League members of Ducsu, headed by its General Secretary Golam Rabbani, made the allegations in a press conference held at the Ducsu office building on Sunday.

The Chhatra League panel member of Ducsu Rakibul Hasan Rakib read out a written speech where they demanded the resignation of Nur.

It stated that Nur should be investigated for corruption, which was revealed in a leaked phone call conversation.

The Chhatra League panel members of Ducsu demanded investigation under the university administration as well as other government organizations including Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

A conversation between the Ducsu vice-president and an expatriate Bangladeshi over a monetary contract was leaked on a private channel on December 3.

In the audio clip, the expatriate asked Nur to send his bank account along with an email address.

While answering queries from reporter, Rabbani claimed that Nur did not spend a dime from the budget of Tk5 lakh that was allocated for the Ducsu vice president to spend on student welfare.

Recently, Rabbani was removed from his position as general secretary of central Chhatra League when an allegation came to light that he and the then president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon extorted money from Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana.

Nur's reaction over the allegation

Vice President (VP) of Ducsu Nurul Haque Nur said that he will submit his resignation if allegation against him is proven true after investigation.

In a phone call with this correspondent on Sunday, Nur said only a portion of his telephonic conversation was published with an ill motive to tarnish his reputation.

VP Nur said: "After all this, if the allegation against me is proven right, then they [Ducsu Chhatra League panel members] will not have to ask me for resignation, I will do it myself."

He added: "How can a person (Rabbani), who is accused in cases of extortion, illegal tender business and drug abuse, raise allegation against someone else?"
