Mohammad Nasim, spokesperson of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, remembered Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy’s roles in Bangladesh politics and democracy, at a discussion meeting marking the 57th anniversary of the latter’s death on Thursday.

“I feel so blessed that I had a chance to meet him at our house. Bangabandhu respected him very much. Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy fought for democracy all his life,” said Nasim.

The meeting took place this Thursday at the National Press Club and was arranged by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote.

“Bangabandhu completed what Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and AK Fazlul Huq could not finish.”

Nasim, a former minister, also said the present generation should realize the sacrifices of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, AK Fazlul Huq, Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, and Bangabandhu, and play an active part in politics.

He said: “He led the nation toward the right direction through his extraordinary leadership qualities. He played very important roles to establish democracy and rule of law.”

Among others, State Minister of Information Hasan Murad and Awami League advisors Mozaffar Hossain, Kamrul Islam and Shah Alam Murad spoke at the event, while Syed Hasan Imam chaired.
