The commerce minister reportedly said if onion prices come down with his resignation, then his resignation is a matter of one second

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said there is nothing serious in Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi’s resignation remark, which he made amid criticisms of soaring onion prices.

“This is not a matter of resignation. He might have made the comment as he is in charge of the ministry,” said Quader while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

In a views-exchange meeting in the city on Tuesday, the commerce minister reportedly said if onion prices come down with his resignation, then his resignation is a matter of one second, reports UNB.

Quader said: “The cabinet is not entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating the performance of a minister and it has no right to take any decision in this regard. This is the jurisdiction of the prime minister.

"it will be her decision that who will be there in the cabinet and who will not. I do not want to make any comment on it."

Replying to a question about the price hike of essentials, Quader, also the Awami League general secretary said there is no reason to deny the fact that the market is now a bit unstable and government is trying to bring it under control.
