Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said Awami League does not support banning students’ politics but is committed to bring students who are involved in wrongdoings to justice.

Obaidul Quader said this in reply to a question from reporters at Rajshahi circuit house on Sunday, reports BSS.

“All of those who are engaged in illegal casinos and terrorist activities are under surveillance of the law enforcement agencies,” he added.

Quader also addressed the Rajshahi divisional delegation conference of Awami League at Shilpakala Academy auditorium as the chief guest, with Awami League presidium member Md Nasim in the chair.

He warned of stern action against terrorists, land-grabbers, extortionists, drug-traders, tender manipulators and the corrupt. The ongoing crackdown against corruption, student politics, illegal business and other criminalities will continue not only in Dhaka but also across the country.

Mentioning that the government will not consider the strength or muscle power of politicians and workers, Quader said: “Awami League wants a strong and clean image in the party and in order to achieve that it will do everything needed.”

Calling upon the party leaders and activists to remain united to thwart conspiracies, Quader said: “Only sincere and dedicated leaders and workers who will work to protect the party interest will be included in the party to build a modern Awami League before the national council scheduled to be held on December 20 and 21,” he said.

Some 240 district and upazila level presidents and general secretaries of the party from all eight districts under the division attended the conference.

Minister Obaidul Quader reminded BNP’s Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that BNP is now on the edge of deep hole for its various misdeeds including nationwide looting, money laundering, terrorism and extortions.

Awami League Joint Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, party central committee members Dr Rokeya Sultana, Advocate Nurul Islam Thandu, Amirul Alam Milon and Prof Merina Jahan also spoke on the occasion.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumder, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak and Members of Parliament also attended the meeting.
