He was arrested for breaching Digital Security Act
BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has been arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
A team of RAB-4 arrested Hafiz when he landed at the airport from Singapore on Saturday evening, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station, said.
Later, the elite force handed him over to Pallabi police station at 8:30pm, the OC said.
BNP condemns the arrest
Meanwhile, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Hafiz returned home after receiving medical treatment in Singapore, reports UNB.
As he reached the airport, Rizvi said, the law enforcers arrested him.
"We strongly condemn and protest his arrest. We demand the government immediately release him after withdrawing the case filed against him," he said.
