Former Bangladesh Chhatra League president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon has submitted his resignation to Dhaka University senate president from the post of senate member.

On his behalf, Chhatra League Office Secretary Ahsan Habib and Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) member Rafikul Islam Sabuj submitted the resignation letter to Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof M Akhtaruzzaman, also president of senate, at 4pm on Monday.

About the resignation letter, Shovon, while speaking to Dhaka Tribune, said he cannot perform anymore as a senate member, because of personal reasnos, and urged the senate president to accept his resignation.

Meanwhile, DU VC Prof M Akhtaruzzaman has confirmed to Dhaka Tribune that he has received the letter around 4:15pm.

“Necessary steps will be taken as per the rules,” he added.

The demand comes two days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina relieved the president and general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League for various controversies and allegations of corruption against them.

The prime minister also selected new leadership for the ruling party’s student body on the same day.

From Sunday, a group of students and the left-leaning student body of Dhaka University (DU) demanded exclusion of former president and general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League from their posts at the Ducsu, and the university senate.
