Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has declared that no official call has been made on dissolving the central committee of the party's student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

He said this in response to a question from reporters after a courtesy meeting with US ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The Road Transport and Bridges minister said: “Unless a final decision is made and implemented, I cannot say anything.”

“Awami League’s nomination and parliamentary boards held a joint meeting at Ganabhaban on Saturday."

The senior Cabinet member Quader said dissolving the committee was not one of the issues that were discussed during the meeting.

Responding to queries on whether party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given any orders to dissolve the committee, he said: “Unless a direct organizational order is issued, I will not say she said it, however I would not say that she did not either.”

When inquired whether he had ordered Chhatra League activists to leave the prime minister’s residence, he said: “Many activists come to the PM's residence from all over Bangladesh and Chhatra League activists are also among them. Why would I ask them to leave?”

Speaking to the media on whether he was satisfied with Chhatra League activities, Quader said: “When they achieve something worthy of praise, I appreciate it.”

“But when their actions hurt the general people, I show my displeasure and ask them to mend their ways,” he added.

The minister declined to comment on Jatiya Party splitting leadership duties, saying that it was their internal issue.
