Decision to impose toll on highways was taken in a Ecnec meeting recently

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive to collect toll from highways goes against public interest.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed authorities concerned to collect tolls from all highways of the country at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council on September 5," he said. "This decision goes against the interest of the public, completely."

He said this at a press conference held at BNP's central office in Naya Paltan on Friday.

The BNP leader added: "If the toll is collected from the highway, it will be paid out of the pockets of the passengers."

He said: "This will also increase traffic congestion and waste people's time."
