JaPa acting chairman said Ershad is responding with eye gestures
Although the physical condition of Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Mohammad Ershad remains unchanged, he has opened his eyes while responding to relative’s calls, said his younger brother GM Quader.
“His condition is stable and remains unchanged. However, he is not yet out of danger,” JaPa acting chief GM Quader said at a press briefing at the party chairman’s Banani office on Tuesday afternoon.
He said Ershad is responding to calls of relatives with eye gestures.
Quoting physicians of the hospital, he said that this is a positive sign for his recovery.
Asked whether Ershad will be kept under life support, Quader said he has been kept under oxygen support due to breathing problems as he is suffering from suffocation.
“Physicians are treating him every two hours. After the treatment, his breathing remains normal for two hours and he starts suffocating again.”
Physicians are still examining his condition, he added.
Meanwhile, the party will hold an emergency meeting with the presidium members and parliamentarians of the party today at party chairman's Banani office.
GM Quader will chair the meeting, said Ershad's deputy press secretary Khandaker Delwar Jalali.
HM Ershad was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after his health condition deteriorated on Sunday. He has been kept on oxygen support after being diagnosed with severe infections in his lungs and kidneys.
Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque visited Ershad at the CMH and said the former president was on life support, contradicting GM Quader’s claims of Ershad being only on oxygen support.
Several senior political leaders, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Awami League Advisory Council Member Tofail Ahmed, JaPa Senior Joint Secretary General MP Liaqat Hossain Khoka, and JaPa Presidium member MP Shamim Hyder Patwari, visited the former president at the hospital.
