'The government remains conscious enough about ensuring the safety of Khaleda Zia who is convicted in two graft cases'
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that necessary security measures have been ensured for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
“The government remains conscious enough about ensuring the safety of Khaleda Zia who is convicted in two graft cases,” he said at a press conference at the party president’s political office in Dhaka's Dhanmondi on Saturday, reports BSS.
"BNP is trying to attain the support of party leaders and workers with falsehoods," said Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister.
Earlier, on Thursday, police reportedly recovered a bomb-like bottle from the second floor of the administrative building of the hospital.
Khaleda Zia, imprisoned since February last year for two corruption cases, has been undergoing treatment and is in room number 621 of the hospital since April.
After the bottle bomb incident last Thursday, BNP leaders at a press conference on Friday raised questions over the security measures taken for their party chief.
In this regard, Quader said the BNP is raising such questions as they have no other issue at present.
“There is nothing to be worried about. We remain alert, but not anxious,” he added.
