Khaleda Zia has been in jail since February 2018

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said iftar is a sacred religious observance and urged opposition BNP not to politicize the matter.

He remarked this while speaking to the media about BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s Tk30 iftar as per the allocation by the prison authority on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters during an inspection tour of the metro-rail project in Dhaka's Agargaon area, the Road Transport and Communication Minister, Quader, reiterated that Khaleda Zia—who is serving prison terms—is required to accept jail codes.

The minister also stated that there would be "ups and downs" nonetheless, the jail would go about serving iftar according to jail codes.

Addressing BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said: “If you think Begum Zia is not satisfied with the Tk30 iftar and if it is not enough for her then we can ask the authorities to make extra arrangements.”

“Do not make a ridiculous political stunt out of it,” the minister urged the BNP leader.
