Police said there may have been a break in after Ershad left the office
Unknown miscreants have stolen Tk43 lakh from the Jatiya Party (JaPa) office, said Khandaker Delwar Jalali, deputy press secretary of JaPa Chairperson Ershad.
The incident occurred at the party’s office in Banani, Dhaka on Monday.
Banani police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mokhlesur Rahaman said: “We found the gate's lock broken, and the vault door open. We saw that the vault's lock was not broken.
Jatiya Party claimed that Tk43 lakh has been stolen. However, no case or general diary (GD) has been filed in this regard as of yet.”
He said Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad was in the office till 11:30pm, and it is possible there was a break in after he left.
“Our senior officials will talk to the party and take action according to the law,” the SI said.
However, Banani police station’s duty officer Ahsan Habib said a case was filed against an unknown person in the incident. The matter is being investigated.
