She says building owners; users must take appropriate measures for overall safety, including fire
Against the backdrop of a number of fire incidents in the country in recent times, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked all concerned to follow “building code” properly in constructing buildings and other establishments.
She said this while chairing a meeting of the Awami League Presidium held at her Ganabhaban residence on Friday afternoon.
The prime minister said: “The building owners and users will have to take appropriate measures about overall safety to check accidents, including fire.”
In this connection, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, instructed the government agencies to enhance their strict vigilances about overall safety of the life and property.
“Special importance will also have to be given to raise mass awareness to this end,” she added.
The prime minister thanked all concerned including the Fire Service and Civil Defence, armed forces, law enforcement agencies and students of different educational institutions for playing a courageous and effective role after the inferno at FR Tower in Banani in the capital on Thursday.
On Thursday, a deadly fire broke out at the 21-storey FR Tower, on Banani’s Kemal Ataturk Avenue around 12:55pm, killing 25 people and injuring 70.
