Law enforcement officials have been deployed at the gates of the former central jail
The authorities have completed necessary preparations to admit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), to ensure better treatment as per a court order.
The BNP chairperson will be taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon, considering she wished to go there, jail authorities said.
Law enforcement officials have been deployed at the gates of the former central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka, as well as at the hospital.
Meanwhile, two members of the medical board formed for her treatment visited cabins 621 and 622 at the cabin block where she will be kept.
BSMMU Director Abdullah Al Harun said: “Khaleda will be brought to BSMMU today [Sunday].”
Earlier on March 4, a high-profile BNP delegation led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to discuss the condition of Khaleda Zia’s health and her treatment.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been in jail since a special court convicted her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last year.
However, Shairul Kabir Khan, BNP chairperson's press wing official said: “We have not finalized the decision of taking Khaleda Zia to BSMMU yet.”
Dhaka central jail jailer Mahbubul Islam said: “Khaleda is still sleeping. If she wants to go to BSMMU when she wakes up, she will be taken there.”
