BNP organized a 'black-band' program on Wednesday demanding re-election, rejecting the outcome of the December 30 polls
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the BNP should wear black badges due to their poor defeat in the 11th general election.
He made the remark at a press conference held at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi on Wednesday.
BNP organized a “black-band” program on Wednesday demanding re-election, rejecting the outcome of the December 30 polls.
When asked to comment on the matter, Obaidul said: “They should sport black badges for their defeat in the election. From a major political party, they have turned out to be a low-level party.”
Asked whether the BNP and Jatiya Party will contest the upazila election, the Awami League general secretary said: “It is an open election and anyone can contest.”
He added: “Until the last day of submission of nomination, we cannot say who will take part and who will not. Many parties can change their decision at the last minute. So, until the submission of the nomination papers, it cannot be said.”
“I do not know about the BNP's stand, but many of them could contest independently,” said Obaidul Quader.
