Ershad left for Singapore on January 20 for a routine health check-up
Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman and Leader of the opposition in parliament, HM Ershad, will return home on February 4 from the National University Hospital, Singapore.
His condition is now stable and he is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Singapore Airlines flight around 10:30 pm on the day, said his Deputy Press Secretary, Khandaker Delwar Jalali, on Saturday, reports BSS.
Ershad left for Singapore on January 20 for a routine health check-up.
He was accompanied by his younger brother, Hossain Morshed, and his wife Roksana Khan Morshed, and JaPa Presidium Member Major (retd) Khaled Akhter, an earlier press release had said.
The press release, however, did not mention the health problems Ershad is suffering from.
When contacted, JaPa Presidium Member Syed Abu Hossain Babla said: “The chairman is suffering from multiple health complications, including acute knee pain and liver problems.”
Just before the December 30 general election, Ershad underwent treatment in Singapore from December 10, and returned home on December 26.
Later, he was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on January 5.
Amid rumours, Ershad continued being a contestant in the national election from Rangpur 3 constituency and won the seat, although he could not carry out any campaigning.
In a statement on January 4, Ershad said his party would be the main opposition in the 11th parliament, while he will act as the leader of the opposition. He also made his brother, GM Quader, deputy opposition leader of the house.
