The Jatiya Party chairman is yet to join his campaign for the general election
Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad has returned home from Singapore after undergoing regular medical check-up – three days before the 11th general election.
He arrived in Dhaka around 9pm on Wednesday on a Singapore Airlines flight, according to a media statement issued by Ershad’s Deputy Press Secretary Khandaker Delwar Jalali.
He was accompanied by JaPa Presidium member Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu and Personal Assistant Monjurul Islam during his visit.
Ershad, who is contesting the polls – due on Sunday – from Dhaka 17 and Rangpur 3 constituencies, has been in Singapore for the last two weeks.
Because of that, the former military dictator was unable to campaign – either for himself or JaPa candidates – demoralizing party leaders and activists.
Earlier, party leaders had said that even after Ershad returned, he would not be able to campaign much as his physical condition is not good, reported UNB.
Like he did before the 2014 general polls, Ershad has allied his party with the ruling Awami League-led Grand Alliance.
However, JaPa is also fielding 145 candidates in the polls independently from the Grand Alliance.
