Cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza called on Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka before collecting a nomination form from the ruling party on Sunday, November 11, 2018 Focus Bangla

The nomination form will be collected from the Narail election office

Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh’s captain for One-Day International cricket matches, is set to have his nomination form collected from the district election office in Narail.

The nomination form will be collected from the office of Narail’s deputy-commissioner-cum-returning-officer on Sunday.

Mashrafe’s father Golam Mortaza Swapan confirmed the matter on Saturday, adding that he, along with party members, would collect the form in his son’s absence.

According to the district election office, current MP and Workers’ Party Narail unit president Advocate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman and three other candidates of Islamic parties have already collected forms.

Mashrafe collected the party nomination papers from Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on November 11, and his nomination was confirmed for the Narail 2 constituency by the politician on November 20.

Mashrafe, fondly known as the “Narail Express” among fans, has been involved in social activities after retiring from the T20 format in April last year.

Last year, he also founded an organization called the “Narail Express Foundation” to carry out development work in the area.

Amid rumors that he might be made to run for office from a constituency in Dhaka, people of Narail had become disheartened. However, after multiple sources from Awami League’s Narail unit confirmed that he had received the final nomination, the atmosphere there turned festive.

As per the Election Commission gazette published on November 12, the 11th general election will be held on December 30, with the last date of filing nominations being November 28.

The gazette also stated that the last day for filing nomination papers is November 28.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 9, and returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers on December 2.
