He stated that ‘the press has been given directives to stop live broadcasts’
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the Election Commission wants to control the media during the upcoming 11th general election.
The senior politician made the statement during a press briefing held at BNP’s Naya Paltan office on Wednesday.
“This is why the press has been given directives to stop live broadcasts,” Rizvi said.
“In addition, various investigative organizations constantly threaten the media in the name of keeping watch,” he added.
State-run ads to promote ruling party
“The ruling party is using government money to run publicity campaigns on national television. This violates the electoral code of conduct, and is unfair to us,” the central BNP leader furtherd.
The 11th general election, originally slated to be held on December 23, was deferred to December 30 by the Election Commission.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda made the announcement in a speech broadcast on national media on November 8.
