Bikalpadhara Bangladesh (BDB) will join with the Jatiya Oikya Front only if their two point conditions are met, said its President Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.

Badruddoza, also head of Jukto Front, said his party will not go for the unity to only take BNP to power.

The conditions are - no affiliation with anti-liberation forces, and clear announcement on balancing state power and politics, said B Chowdhury at a press conference at his house in Dhaka last night.

B Chowdhury made this announcement less than an hour after BNP, Gono Forum, Nagorik Oikya and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) launched a new political platform – Jatiya Oikya Front.

Although Bikalpadhara Bangladesh President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Juktofront initially brought together the political parties for the unity, however BDB backtracked at the very last moment.

BDB General Secretary Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan and Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury also spoke at the press conference.

“We cannot remove one autocrat and bring another dictator to power. That will not change the fate of the people or the prevailing situation of the country,” said B Chowdhury.

“We have spoken to bring balance in politics so that no party can go into power alone,” he added.

“Until there is a balance in power, there will be no positive changes in Bangladesh.”

Clearing his party stance, former president Badruddoza Chowdhury said those who do not believe in the map of Bangladesh, do not believe in independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh, no unity can be done with them.

He also brought allegations of ‘bad behaviour’ against Dr Kamal Hossain.

“We were in the process of this unity from the start. As a part of that, we were invited to the house of Dr Kamal Hossain at Bailey Road, and were scheduled to announce the national unity after the meeting. However, I waited for 14/15 minutes in front of the house, but he (Kamal) was not there, nor did anyone open the door,” he alleged.

When the BDB delegation was returning, Gonoforum Secretary General Mostafa Mohsin Montu called them and asked them to be at Dr Kamal Hossain’s chamber, according to B Chowdhury.

“But Dr Kamal did not call us,” he said, raising allegations that it was planned.

Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan said it will be a deception with the country’s people if national unity works to bring a specific party to power based on single majority.

Protesting Dr Kamal Hossain’s behaviour, he said an evil attempt to form an indirect unity with anti-liberation forces have been very clear at the move.

“Bikalpadhara will not entertain any chance from anyone to confuse the nation by sitting with BNP using the name of national unity,” added Mannan.

Until any clear announcement is made from BNP on cutting ties with the anti-liberation forces, and balance of power in parliament, BDB will not be involved with any conspiracy to take BNP single handed to power, he added.

BDB Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury said their party has not yet separated from the national unity, nor they have any information on whether they have ditched them or not.

“If they have ditched us, they will clearly let us know. But our stance is very clear, we will not make any unity to take BNP or any other party single handed to power,” he added.
