Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has given BNP the permission to hold a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka under 22 terms and conditions.

In the permission letter issued on Saturday, the DMP made it clear that BNP only have the permission to use the venue to hold their rally from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday.

The letter said the party must refrain from making any controversial statements, and no sound boxes should be used outside the venue.

The DMP also stated that stern security measures will be taken. Metal detectors will used and vehicles will also be searched.

The party leaders and activists were also directed not bring in processions for participating in the rally.

In the letter, the DMP warned that any violation of the 22 conditions will result in immediate cancellation of the permission.

Earlier, a BNP delegation visited DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia around 11:30am yesterday to discuss the issue of securing permission for the party’s scheduled program.

Publicity Secretary of BNP National Executive Committee and former lawmaker Shahid Uddin Chowdhury lead the delegation, while Assistant Organizing Secretary Advocate Abdus Salam Azad accompanied him.

Rizvi: We aim to hold a peaceful rally

Meanwhile, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has also said that the party aimed to hold a peaceful rally today.

At a press conference yesterday, he said: “We were a bit concerned regarding the DMP’s permission for our rally, but we are now relieved.

“BNP aims to hold a peaceful public rally, and we are optimistic about getting full cooperation from the government and the administration. Sunday’s program will be one of the most historic and successful events organized by the BNP.”

Rizvi also invited BNP leaders and activists from Dhaka and nearby areas, such as Manikganj, Tangail, Munshiganj and Keraniganj, to attend the scheduled rally.
