The BNP mayor candidate is upset with the media for editing his comments
BNP’s Sylhet City mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowhury says he only wishes to speak to the media during a live broadcast.
“If [my speech] is not live, then you [the journalists] will edit it. But if it broadcast live, you will not be able to drop anything from it,” he told reporters on Thursday at the Election Commission.
He did not explain which particular report prompted him to make the decision.
Ariful came to the commission to submit information about anomalies with the voter’s list, including with deceased and expatriate voters.
He had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
“I came here to submit a list of voters currently staying abroad and the deceased. This is to prevent others from casting their votes illegally,” he said. “They [his opponents] cannot beat me by doing these things [vote rigging].”
Ariful said he had informed the chief election commissioner about other irregularities. “He said he will take actions,” the mayoral candidate added.
The BNP mayor aspirant leads the July 30 election by 4,626 votes. But balloting was suspended at two centres, where voting will be held on August 11.
