Quader's comments follow allegations that Chhatra League, the ruling party student wing, attacked protesting students across the city in the last two days.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday urged party leaders and activists to be patient with the ongoing student protests.
However, he also instructed them to be alert to prevent any attacks on Awami League.
“Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina has instructed us to show the highest patience,” he said at a press briefing at the Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi on Sunday afternoon.
“She has also ordered us to be alert, so that if any untoward situation is created, the Awami League men are able to prevent attack on the party or its office.”
The road transport and bridges minister also alleged that BNP and its top leaders are behind the attack on Awami League office.
“The release of BNP leader Amir Khasru’s telephone discussion proved that BNP is trying to unseat the government using the students' non-political movement,” he said.
