Balloting suspended at three centres of wards 24 and 31 on May 15 halted the outcome of 3 ward councils
A revote at three previously suspended Khulna City Corporation centres has finally revealed the winners at three ward councils.
Independent candidate Arif Hossain Mithu has won from ward No. 31 while BNP’s Majeda Khatun and Awami League Lutfun Nesa Lutfa have been elected from the reserved wards nine and 10 respectively.
Final results of these three wards were stuck after balloting was suspended at three centres of wards 24 and 31 on May 15 on allegations of irregularities.
Unofficial results from Wednesday night show that Lutfa bagged 842 votes from two of the centres while Majeda got 441 votes. Mithu, on the other hand, bagged 1,008 votes from two centres.
The revote took place on Wednesday amid tight security.
Returning Officer Yunus Ali said the turnout at Iqbal Nagar School centre was 46.94% while it was 47% at Labanchara Government Primary School centre and 47.43% at the ward number 31 councillor’s office centre.
After the revote, Majeda bagged 12,635 votes, beating the incumbent councillor Ruma Khatun by 227 votes. At reserved ward 10, Lutfa got a total of 14,636 votes, defeating her rival by 1,581 votes.
