BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday night voiced deep concerns over party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s deteriorating health condition in jail.
Speaking at a press conference, he demanded the government immediately take steps for better treatment of the BNP chief.
The press conference was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office after some of Khaleda’s relatives met her in jail.
“We have come to know from Khaleda’s family members that her health condition has seriously deteriorated. She is so sick that she cannot even move her left arm. We are deeply worried about her falling health,” Fakhrul said.
He asked why the government is not ensuring better treatment for Khaleda despite her party’s repeated demands.
The BNP leader warned that the government will be held responsible if anything bad happens to their chairperson.
He alleged that the government is showing a cruel attitude towards Khaleda and not providing her with proper treatment with a ‘heinous’ motive to keep her away from politics.
“The government’s attitude towards a national leader cannot be accepted,” he said.
Earlier in the afternoon, Khaleda Zia’s sister Selima Islam and four of her family members met the BNP chief at old Dhaka central jail at Nazimuddin Road.
