Jahangir Alam, the Awami League mayoral candidate in the Gazipur City Corporation polls, says he will challenge the three-month stay order slapped by the High Court on the election.
BNP candidate Hasan Uddin Sarkar moved the court against the order on Monday.
Election to the city corporation was scheduled to be held on May 15, but the High Court on Sunday stayed it for three months after hearing a writ petition.
“I want the Gazipur City Corporation election to be held smoothly,” Jahangir told reporters in Dhaka on Monday. “So I have also decided to appeal against the High Court’s order.”
