BNP will hold a rally in Dhaka on Wednesday, protesting DMP’s denial to grant them permission to hold a countrywide program.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the statement at a press briefing held at party headquarters in Naya Paltan around on Monday.
Earlier, BNP had sought permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold a countrywide rally on May 7 (today) demanding the release and treatment of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
However, the party was denied the permission.
In the briefing, Rizvi said: "After keeping us waiting for a long time, DMP finally told us that we will not be able to hold the rally.
“This shows how much the government is afraid of BNP's popularity for which they are not letting the party perform any kind of activity."
Former Prime Minister Khaleda was jailed in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on April 6. Since then, she has been kept at the old central jail in Dhaka.
